Using the AI chat
The AI chat is the core of bldrAgent. Learn how to open it, what it can do, and how to get the most out of every conversation.
The AI chat panel
The AI chat is the primary way you communicate with bldrAgent's AI to build, modify, and extend your app. It lives in the left panel of the editor.
Think of it as a conversation with a senior developer. You describe what you want, and the AI writes the code, updates your database, and makes changes to your app — all in real time.
What the AI chat can do
- Build screens — describe a new page and it's created instantly
- Add components — buttons, forms, tables, cards, charts, and more
- Set up data — create database tables, fields, and relationships
- Wire up logic — form submissions, conditional visibility, calculations
- Style your app — colours, fonts, spacing, responsive layouts
- Add integrations — email, payments, external APIs
- Debug issues — describe a problem and the AI fixes it
How context works
The AI always has the full context of your current project. It knows:
- Every page and component in your app
- Your database schema and existing data
- Your previous messages in this session
- Your app settings and configuration
This means you never have to re-explain your app. You can jump straight to "Add a delete button to the user table" without saying what the user table is.
Single vs. multi-step requests
You can send a single instruction or describe a complex multi-step feature:
Single step:
"Change the hero background to a dark navy gradient"
Multi-step:
"Add a review system. Each product should allow logged-in users to leave a star rating (1–5) and a comment. Show the average rating on the product card. Add a reviews tab to the product detail page."
The AI will handle both — breaking complex requests into the necessary steps automatically.
Undoing AI changes
If you don't like a change:
- Click Undo in the editor toolbar (Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z)
- Or type "Undo that last change" in the chat
- Or use Version History to roll back further (see What's new)
Tips for great results
See the dedicated Writing prompts guide for a full breakdown. Quick tips:
- Be specific about what you want and where it should appear
- Describe the user's goal, not just the UI element
- Include example data when relevant ("the table should show name, email, signup date")
Switching AI models
bldrAgent supports multiple AI models. You can switch the model used for your session in Project Settings → AI Model. Different models have different strengths — some are faster, some produce more detailed outputs. See Billing and plans for which models are available on your plan.
